Description

The American Civil Liberties Union is one of the largest organizations in the country that focuses specifically on defending the constitutional rights of all. The ACLU of Alaska is a state-based chapter of the national network that works to protect the civil rights and individual liberties enshrined in the U.S. and Alaska Constitutions. Their mission is built to ensure that those who have historically been denied their rights are afforded the same protections as everyone else, including people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, prisoners, and Alaska Native peoples. The ACLU of Alaska works in the courts to ensure that your constitutional rights are being defended and protected, and your civil liberties are expanded. They specialize in impact litigation, legislative advocacy and education. The ACLU of Alaska educates legislators about ACLU of Alaska positions, drafts legislation on priority issues, lobbies and testifies on bills affecting civil liberties, work in coalition, and are newly tapping into Alaska’s grassroots power to push for positive change and take on defensive battles in Juneau.
