Description

Ex-Prisoners and Prisoners Organizing for Community Advancement is an organization of justice-impacted community leaders. Their mission is to lead change in the community and to pursue more equitable policies in the criminal justice system. They believe that organizing around people with first-hand experience inside the justice system will help inform policies that protect and support justice-impacted people before, during and after incarceration. EPOCA also advocates for reentry policies and services that will support individuals under court supervision and those who face barriers to independent living due to criminal conviction. Currently, they are focusing efforts on two programs: Jobs not Jails and Freedom Cities. Jobs not Jails works to ensure employment opportunities for justice-impacted and at-risk community members to help reduce recidivism. Freedom Cities is an initiative to support immigrants and protect immigrant rights throughout the city.
