Average Reviews

The Lorton Art Program believes in the power of artistic expression to heal and process difficult emotions in a productive way. For more than forty five years, the Lorton Art Program has served currently incarcerated individuals at the DC Detention Center and, before that, the DC – Lorton prison complex. Participants in the program receive valuable training and instruction on various artistic methods during incarceration, as well as exposure to diverse visual arts. Those in the program learn to channel their thoughts and feelings into artistic expression as a means of healing. The Lorton Art Program has shown continued success in assisting individuals heal from past traumas, modify destructive behavioral patterns and manage sometimes intense mental health disorders through the appreciation and creation of art. Participants also have the opportunity to exhibit their work as part of the Lorton Art Program annual art exhibit. For more information, contact the organization directly.
