Shawnee County Department of Corrections offers various programs for incarcerated people at the adult and juvenile Corrections institutions in Kansas state. The programs relating to educational opportunities, physical, social and mental health stability, maintenance of family relationships, and religious freedom and practice are offered. Some of the programs offered at Juvenile Detention Center are Man’s Best Friend, Gardening Program, Positive Connections, Weekly Arts and Crafts, Gear Up College Readiness Classes, One Heart Mentoring Program, Forward-Thinking Journal Program, Church Services, Weekly social skills/life skills presentations by the Programs Officer, Daily exercise opportunities at the facility gymnasium, Monthly barber services, Commissary and Save Your Self facilitated by Women Empowerment Inc. Some of the regular programs held at the Adult Detention Center are alcoholics Anonymous Groups, Bible Study Classes, Chaplain Services, Church Services and more. They also provide a Re-Entry Program that will provide incarcerated people with employment skills, training, and on-site work opportunities to assist incarcerated people in achieving meaningful employment and life skills once discharged from the facility.
