Soteria Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a community-based organization, passionate about extending a helping hand to men and women impacted by incarceration, poor financial management and a lack of education. They also empower low-income families with resources and training to help them reach a place of self-sufficiency. Soteria CDC offers financial planning skills and goal setting to positive decision-making, job training, and affordable rental housing.
Soteria House is a residential facility for men transitioning back into society after incarceration. It is a place of dignity and calm where they are assured of meals, clothes, rides to and from work, a schedule with responsibilities, and a place to work out or play basketball. Soteria CDC consists of social enterprise as one of its tools for successful reentry. Its brand name “Soteria at Work” does deconstruction and woodworking business. They teach their interns how to take the discarded wood and repurpose it into artifacts of value – like farm tables and sliding barn doors and sell those products. Soteria CDC also advocates to expunge pardons and to eliminate collateral consequences that continue to punish individuals with records after their time has been served.
