Description

The Young Women’s Freedom Center (YMFC) is a California-based organization that focuses on empowering and inspiring cis and trans young women, trans young men, and gender-expansive young people who have been disproportionately impacted by incarceration, racist and sexist policies, the juvenile and criminal justice systems, and/or the underground street economy, to create positive change in their lives and communities. YMFC seeks to connect directly with those affected by prejudice-driven cycles of crime and violence below the poverty line. With that, the Young Women’s Freedom Center’s mission is to educate younger people on economic management and opportunities, along with skills to navigate ‘the streets’ and public institutions like prisons or foster homes. Headquartered in San Francisco, YMFC has 3 other branch offices in Oakland, Los Angeles and Santa Clara County. They are committed to decriminalization, decarceration, abolition, gender justice and liberation, education and transformative justice. For more information on the service of YMFC, please contact them directly.
